EU launches first public database on substances of high concern in articles-SCIP database

On September 16, 2021, the SCIP database was released, becoming the first public database on substances of high concern in the European Union. According to the newly revised EU "Waste Framework Directive" (WFD Directive), starting from January 5, 2021, all articles circulating in the EU that contain more than 0.1%(w/w) of substances of high concern (SVHCs) will need to submit a notification to ECHA, namely SCIP notification. ECHA collects and collates the information submitted by enterprises and establishes SCIP database to ensure that the information of the whole life cycle (including waste stage) of these products and materials is open.
