What is EPA?
EPA The Environmental Protection Agency of the United States Environmental Protection Agency is a functional department of the United States government, mainly responsible for environmental protection, including the protection of air quality, water, soil, animals and plants. The U.S. EPA enforces its law under Title 40 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations (40 CFR). As people use more and more insecticidal, antibacterial, pesticide and other products in their daily life and production, these active agents and devices will inevitably have a certain impact on the environment (including water, soil, animals and plants, etc.). In order to facilitate better management of bactericidal, antibacterial and insecticide products, the U.S. EPA has enacted the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Products regulated by the Act include devices (which work by physical principles) and active agents (various chemical components). Disinfectant water and disinfectant for the surface of objects are among them. |
EPA Certification Process
For products subject to the FIFRA Act, distributors and manufacturing plants must register with the EPA. Among them, distributors in the United States need to obtain a company number (Company Number or EPA Register Number), and any factory that produces and distributes these devices or active agents must obtain an EPA trade number (EPA Establishment Number). A company number or registration number can be associated with multiple trade numbers.
After obtaining the relevant number, the manufacturer's trade name (EPA Establishment Number) must be marked on the outer package. At the same time, packaging and labeling should meet the requirements of EPA regulations.
Any factory that has obtained EPA registration must report to EPA the sales volume of the previous year, including specific product categories, models and sales quantities, before March 1 of each year. Manufacturers registered for the first time must submit the previous year's sales volume to the EPA within one month after obtaining the EPA firm name.
For fungicides, pesticides and other products, if the active ingredients not approved by EPA are applicable, relevant information must be submitted to EPA to prove the safety of the active ingredients on the link. At the same time, the label of such products must also be filed with the EPA.
For surface disinfection wipes, disinfectants into the United States before the mandatory EPA certification and registration. Disinfectant wipes, disinfectants in the United States belong to the EPA registration certification of antibacterial pesticides registration.

EPA List N
List N is the U.S. EPA's list of disinfection products that can effectively inactivate the new coronavirus. When purchasing a disinfection product, the purchaser can check whether the product is on this list through the EPA registration number. If so, it means that the product can be used to inactivate the new coronavirus.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expects all products on List N to kill novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19) when used in accordance with labeling instructions.
2. Just check the EPA registration number on the label, because these products may have different brand names. As long as the registration number is the same, it means they are the same product.
These products are used on surfaces, not the human body.
EPA Antibacterial Pesticide Registration
At the EPA, products used to kill viruses and bacteria on surfaces are registered as antimicrobial insecticides. Disinfectants and antimicrobials are two types of antimicrobial pesticides. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates hand sanitizers, sanitizers, and antibacterial soaps for use on humans.
Surface antibacterial products are subject to more stringent EPA testing requirements than surface disinfection products. There are many products registered with the EPA as both disinfectants and antimicrobials because they have been tested against both standards. These products are eligible for listing in the EPA's LIST N. When using these products, please follow the sterilization instructions and pay close attention to the contact time, that is, the time the surface must be kept wet, which usually takes a few minutes.
If a cleaning product declares insecticidal or antibacterial, such as killing pests, bacteria, or viruses, on the label, it must be registered with the EPA Environmental Protection Agency.
How to be included in LIST N?
A new coronavirus disinfectant in a similar list N must be registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prior to being imported, sold or distributed in the United States, regardless of whether it is registered in another country.
EPA reviews and registers antimicrobial pesticides, including disinfectants used against pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus). EPA is seeking to expedite the review and approval of virus disinfectants. Once registered, they will be added to the EPA's List N: Disinfectants Used to Fight SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19), which shows products that are effective for COVID-19.
If you have an antibacterial product for the new coronavirus, please contact New Angrun Consulting for the specific EPA registration process. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is also accelerating its review by adding instructions for using electrostatic sprayers to products designed to kill the new coronavirus.
