In this tweet, we will focus on several recent News from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

Recently, ECHA submitted a proposal to restrict the listing of substances containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in clay targets used for shooting.
The proposal is open to anyone from December 22, 2021 to June 22, 2022. The ECHA Science Committee welcomes early comments from the public by January 25, 2022, to help them in the first discussion of the proposal in February 2022.

ECHA has published an assessment that it is not necessary to restrict the use of arsenate in articles under Article 69(2) of REACH. However, they will continue to follow the situation.

The European Court of Justice has confirmed that bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor of human health.
The European Court of Justice has completely rejected the appeal filed by the European Plastics Association against the judgment of the General Court in T-636/17, which confirmed the ECHA's decision to identify bisphenol A (BPA) as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) because it is an endocrine disruptor for human health under Article 57 (f) of REACH. The court ruled that the European Plastics Association had failed to prove any legal error by the ordinary courts.

From January 2022, thousands of chemicals will be restricted in tattoo inks and permanent cosmetics.
From January 4, 2022, the EU/EEA will restrict the use of more than 4000 harmful substances in mixtures used for tattooing and permanent makeup. This limit introduces a maximum concentration limit for an individual or group of substances. These include certain azo dyes, carcinogenic aromatic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals and methanol. The restriction also requires mixtures used for tattooing and permanent makeup to indicate this use on their labels. The label also needs to include a list of ingredients and relevant safety statements.
The new rules apply to two pigments: blue and green. It will be implemented from January 4, 2023.
