Validity of SDS/MSDS reports

In 1996, in China, the year issued by the former Ministry of Labor and the chemical industry, the former Ministry of Labor and the chemical industry issued the "Regulations on Safe Use of Chemicals in Workplaces" (Ministry of Labor (Ministry of Labor issued [1996[1996 ] 423] 423] Decree No. 423). Article 11 stipulates that SDS needs to be replaced every five years. If new hazard characteristics are found during this period, it should be updated in time within six months.

The Taiwan SDS is updated every three years.

The EU

The supplier shall update the SDS in a timely manner and provide the updated version of SDS (paper or electronic) to the downstream within 12 months when the following conditions occur:

1. In the event of new information that may affect risk management measures or new information related to hazards (I. e. new classification);

2. Once the chemical is authorized or refused to authorize;

3. Once the chemical is restricted;

★The EU regulation makes no mention of requiring regular updates to the SDS.

The United States

According to Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) 2012, if there is any new important information, the SDS should be revised within 3 months. If the chemical is not currently produced or imported, the manufacturer/importer of the chemical should complete the SDS update before the next time the chemical is put into the workplace.

Japan

According to Article 5.4 of JIS Z 7253-2012 (Method for communication by SDS), when chemicals have new information, suppliers should update SDS in time and provide updated SDS to downstream. It is not clear what "new information" may prompt an SDS update.

★JIS Z 7253 -2012 does not mention the requirement to regularly update the SDS.

Thi Australia

Model WHS Regulations -2016 Article 338(3), manufacturers/importers of hazardous chemicals should check for updated SDS at least every 5 years. Relevant necessary information should also be updated and modified to ensure that the information in the SDS is accurate.

Regulations of the Philippines

The provisions of the EMB Memorandum Circular No. 2015 -011 E-1.1.8 that the SDS should be revised as new information becomes available and updated at least every five years.
