FDA expands hand sanitizer ban list again

Hand sanitizer has been a popular product in the fight against COVID-19 in the United States since the outbreak. Hand sanitizer, hand-washing gel, hand-washing spray, etc. are in short supply. Many enterprises in our country have successfully exported a large number of products after entrusting us to complete FDA registration.

However, according to the US FDA investigation, children who accidentally ingest hand sanitizer and young people who drink hand sanitizer instead of alcohol are also increasing, which increases their risk of methanol poisoning.

After testing, on July 11, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the list of banned hand sanitizers because these products may contain deadly toxins such as methanol, which can be absorbed or ingested through human skin. The FDA advises consumers not to use the following hand sanitizers because they all contain methanol or are made in the same plant, and the FDA also says to avoid using disinfectants from these companies.

FDA Hand Sanitizer Registration Notice

In the United States, hand sanitizer is an over-the-Counter (OTC) for local disinfection. Like anti-dandruff shampoo, fluoride toothpaste, sunscreen and other products, it is regulated by FDA.

Any OTC product already on the market must meet certain conditions, otherwise it will be treated as an NDA. Drugs containing these active ingredients can directly apply for NDC and sell them on the OTC market without applying for NDA. At present, there are hundreds of active ingredients permitted by the US FDA to be used in OTC. The US FDA's management and identification of OTC ingredients are all published in the Federal Register. The relevant provisions amount to tens of volumes and hundreds of thousands of pages.
