Key requirements for Chinese labels of cosmetics

On October 27, 2022, the official website of the State Food and Drug Administration released the "Quick Review of Drug Administration Policies (No. 50)", explaining the specific details of the Chinese labels of cosmetics as follows:
1. Cosmetic labels are the main way to identify and explain the basic information, attribute characteristics and safety warnings of products, and are an important reference for consumers to purchase products.
2. According to the relevant provisions of the Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics and the Measures for the Administration of Cosmetic Labels, cosmetics marketed in China should have Chinese labels.
3. Chinese labels of cosmetics should use standard Chinese characters, and if other words or symbols are used, standard Chinese characters should be used on the same visible surface of the product for explanation.
4. If the registered trademark in the Chinese name of the product uses letters, Chinese pinyin, numbers, symbols, etc., its meaning shall be explained in the same visual face.
5. In addition to the registered trademark, the font size of other characters on the same visual surface of the Chinese label shall be less than or equal to the font size of the corresponding standard Chinese characters.
6. If a Chinese label is affixed to the original packaging in a foreign language, the labeling of the Chinese label shall meet the above requirements.
According to Announcement No. 77 of 2021 of the State Drug Administration (Announcement on the Implementation of the Measures for the Administration of Cosmetic Labels), from May 1, 2022, cosmetics that apply for registration or filing must comply with the provisions and requirements of the Measures for the Administration of Cosmetic Labels. For cosmetics that have previously applied for registration or filing (May 1, 2022) and have not been labeled in accordance with the provisions of this "Measures for the Administration of Cosmetic Labels", the cosmetic registrant and the filing person must complete the product label before May 1, 2023 Update.
All cosmetics listed in China should have Chinese labels. The main information is as follows:
1. Product Chinese name: trademark name, generic name, attribute name, supplementary description (color number, sun protection index, etc.)

3. Name of domestic responsible person: address of domestic responsible person: (only imported goods need to be marked) marked on the visual surface or instructions

6. Ingredients: marked on the visual surface or instructions
7. Other trace ingredients: marked on the visual surface or instructions
8. Net content (without guidance): marked on the visual surface
9. Duration of use, date of manufacture and/or batch number
