SDS/MSDS Introduction

SDS/MSDS Introduction

What is SDS?

The English name of SDS is called Safety Data Sheet - literally translated as "safety data sheet".

Since the SDS report is basically required for the transportation of chemicals, the SDS report is basically used for chemicals. Therefore, it is also called “MSDS” or “Chemical Safety Data Sheet” or “Chemical Safety Data Sheet”. The essence is the same.

In some old regulations, it is also called Material Safety Data Sheet. Therefore, people are more accustomed to call it MSDS at work. However, the latest UN GHS system, China's national standard and EU CLP and other current regulations have uniformly referred to as SDS.

In most cases, SDS has no special period of validity and should be updated in a timely manner based on “actual conditions”.

SDS scope of application

Ø  A substance classified as a hazardous chemical or a mixture containing a hazardous chemical;

Ø  Substances that contain a certain proportion of substances of high concern (SVHC); substances that are judged to be persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic (PBT); highly persistent; substances with high bioaccumulation (vPvB);

Ø  Requested by the competent authority or importer.

In principle, non-hazardous chemicals (commodities, consumer goods, etc.) do not need to provide SDS, but this is often not the case actually, such as booking, transportation and other practical operations will be required.

SDS content

The SDS contains sixteen pieces of information, which are fixed in order, and the titles are strictly in accordance with the regulations.

SDS format requirements

Top of the front page: title, product name, initial date of preparation, basis for writing, SDS number/version number (if any)

Top of each page after the first page: product name, revision date, SDS number

Page number: The footer is centered or right, showing the total number of pages

Text: The title, number and order of the 16 parts should not be changed arbitrarily; the headline typesetting should use bold fonts, and there should be some space above and below the title; the headings of small items should be eye-catching, but not numbered; small items should be pressed Order in the order specified in GB/T16483

√The product name is not standardized or the range is too large.

√Is the item order title standardized?

√ Is it classified according to GHS?

√Is the classification accurate?

√Hazard statement describes whether to regulate

√Precautionary description describes whether to regulate

√Hazard classification and label element correspondence

√Correspondence between label elements

√Ingredient information is complete or standardized

√First-aid firefighting measures are not targeted

√Is the data supported by the classification complete?

√Is the data consistent with the classification result

√Is the transportation classification correct?

√Is the translation standardized?

√Is the information blank ?

√ Whether to quote invalidation regulations or standards
